Hip Hop Family Tree - “The lore of the early days of hip hop has become the stuff of myth, so what better way to document this fascinating, epic true story than in another great American mythological medium — the comic book? From exciting young talent and self-proclaimed hip hop nerd Ed Piskor, acclaimed for his hacker graphic novel Wizzywig, comes this explosively entertaining, encyclopedic history of the formative years of the music genre that changed global culture. Originally serialized on the hugely popular website Boing Boing, Hip Hop Family Tree is now collected in a single volume cleverly presented and packaged in a style mimicking the Marvel comics of the same era.”

The Otis Maybach - Otis is the 2012 Grammy Award winning track from the collaborative album Watch the Throne, a raucous and unapologetic celebration of the “good life” from two music legends: JAY Z and Kanye West.

The Spike Jonze-directed video for Otis, has the two MCs deconstructing a glistening Maybach-Motorenbau GmbH, transforming the penultimate luxury car into a play-thing, a Frankenstein muscle car – not for the faint of heart and most certainly not street-legal. On 8 March 2012, Phillips de Pury & Company will offer the Otis Maybach as Lot 1 of their Contemporary Art Evening Sale in New York, with all proceeds going to Save the Children. Proceeds will be donated towards the East African drought disaster. See Lot Details.

An Animated Gif Mashup and Explosion

“Unofficial Watch The Throne Video (Jay-Z & Kanye West). The result of spending one afternoon in a loft in St. Petersburg with a group of people listening to rap music and surfing Russian websites for animated gifs. The event was hosted by International Art-Forum St. Petersburg and created using Animated Gif Mashup (source code available here). Documentation of the screening is here (worth it for the vodka chug if nothing else)” via Evan Roth on the fffff.at site.
